Professor in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Tianjin University
He is a member of CIGRE, a senior member of IEEE, also is a Professional Engineer registered at the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, Canada. His special fields of interest include smart grid, energy Internet, non-intrusive load monitoring, data analytics, distribution system analysis, renewable energy resource integration, and utility advanced applications. Currently, he is the Secretary of IEC TC8/SC8B Decentralized Electrical Energy Systems, Chair for IEEE WG P2030.9 Recommended Practice for the Planning and Design of the Microgrid, Vice Chair for IEEE WG P2815 Guide for the Technical Specification for Smart Distribution Transformer Terminal. Professor Luan received the 2020 IEEE SA Standards Medallion award for leadership and contributions to the development of standards in the field of distributed energy resource integration.
Driven by the carbon neutrality target, energy system is transforming towards a more electrified and decentralized system, which requires the new type power system to integrate renewable energy resources, EV charging facilities and utilize demand side resources such as flexible loads. While the increasingly high penetration of distributed generations has posed significant challenges, it has brought about opportunities for utilities to leverage advanced technologies as smart sensing, innovative analysis and AI algorithms into the power system operation.
This session aims to provide an opportunities for researchers, engineers and industry leader to share and discuss recent advances, technologies, solutions, and applications in the field of smart sensing, innovative analysis of power systems with high penetration of distributed generations.
