PhD, Professor-level Senior Engineer, Chief Expert of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), Yangtze River Scholar (University-Enterprise Joint Appointment). He serves as Director of the New Energy Research Institute, China Electric Power Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CEPRI), and Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Renewable Energy Grid-Integration. He also serves as Deputy Secretary-General of SAC/TC 50, and Member of IEC TC 88 (Wind Turbines). His research focuses on grid-connected simulation and control of renewable energy, testing and demonstration, and the development of technical standard systems.
Guided and driven by the dual-carbon goals, the construction of China’s new-type power system has entered an accelerated transition stage. The penetration of renewable energy keeps rising, and renewables have gradually become the primary power source, bringing about urgent problems including insufficient grid support capacity, weakened system strength and reduced rotational inertia. As a core technology for optimizing system regulation capacity, energy storage still faces numerous challenges in its coordinated operation with renewable energy. This special Section solicits papers covering coordinated stability mechanisms and modeling of renewable energy and energy storage, stable operation and coordinated support control under various operating scenarios, compatibility and support capability analysis of new energy storage and renewable energy, multi-level grid-forming control at the unit, station and cluster levels, research and development of key equipment for stable operation of renewable energy and energy storage, wide-band dynamic simulation and testing technologies for grid-connected performance verification, as well as assessment and applied demonstration of active support and grid-forming capabilities. It conducts in-depth discussions on coordinated active support technologies for renewable energy and energy storage, promotes the engineering implementation of coordinated control, testing and evaluation technologies, and supports the high-quality development of the new-type power system.
